James Bohnsack grew up in rural North Central Missouri in a town with a population of 5,000. His father was a general practitioner, and while observing his father’s devotion to helping people, Dr. Bohnsack decided he wanted to follow in his footsteps. Dr. Bohnsack has always felt that if you show up and do your best to help people, the rest will take care of itself.
For more than 30 years, Dr. Bohnsack has been doing just that. In 2008, Dr. Bohnsack decided to change his practice and develop a more intimate experience focusing on wellness and the patient experience.MEDICAL PHILOSOPHY Dr. Bohnsack believes that people want to and can care for themselves if they are given the right guidance, information and encouragement.
He feels there are too many barriers between the physician and patient; and with him in the patient’s corner, Dr. Bohnsack will make the healthcare experience much simpler. After completing his residency at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas in 1980, Dr. Bohnsack moved to Nacogdoches, Texas and opened his first practice.
In 1982, he moved back to Ft. Worth and opened a solo practice. This practice grew with five other Family Practice Physicians and became Southwest Medical Associates. In 1992, they merged with a large pediatric group, more Family Practice Physicians and a small group of internists.Recognizing the importance of the patient/physician relationship, Dr. Bohnsack restructured the group and became the solo physician at Southwest Medical Associates.
Dr. Bohnsack believed, and continues to believe, that people should be able to see their physician and that is what differentiates his practice.
