“Confronting your fears and allowing yourself the right to be human can, paradoxically, make you a far happier and more productive person.” — David Burns, M.D.
In my work with adults, I believe that raising self-esteem, exploring causes, feelings and thoughts, as well as developing healthy choices, are essential. I enjoy helping people to understand how their healthy and unhealthy thoughts can influence their feelings and behavior. I like to conduct my therapy sessions in an atmosphere of compassion, respect and even humor at times. It is a privilege to help people confront their most painful issues and work with them to a more peaceful conclusion.
I have a doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University and have 39 years of experience working with adults in individual therapy in private practice and hospital settings. My specialties are anxiety, panic attacks, codependence, depression, grief/loss issues, life transitions and personal growth. I use cognitive behavioral and mindfulness techniques, progressive relaxation, deep breathing, imagery and journaling.
In my free time, I enjoy connecting with friends and family, hiking, bird watching, race walking and doing anything with dogs.
